Introduction and Dedication

This volume is the twelfth annual publication of the Duke Journal of Economics. The journal is a showcase for outstanding contributions made each year to the discipline of economics by Duke undergraduates.

We dedicate this issue to Professor Edward Tower. Over the twelve years that the Duke Journal has been published, he has worked diligently with many groups of undergraduates to nurture this enterprise. He has contributed immeasurably to its evolution and ongoing success and has always done so in a warm and enthusiastic manner.

The Journal would like to thank donors to the Havrilesky Fund and Allen Starling Johnson, Jr. Endowment Fund as well as members of the staff of Duke University Economics Department, especially Priscilla Lane who is responsible for the new electronic format for the Journal.
